Opening of Lowther Castle project

Yesterday was a beautiful day for a small opening celebration of the opening of the Lowther Castle & Gardens project near Penrith in Cumbria.

The project is gradually transforming the site into a major new gardens-based visitor attraction within the Lake District National Park and includes the repair of the Castle ruin and the re-presentation of the amazing 'lost' gardens which were abandoned over 50 years ago.

Works have enabled the site to be opened up to the public with a new visitor cafe in the stables block and the chance to see works underway on the castle and gardens.

A museum gallery to tell the fascinating story of the site is scheduled to be completed by the end of the summer.

Our work here has been a long haul from the initial securing of funding through to the oversight of the ongoing site stages. We're very proud to have been involved and excited about the future of the project.

The project's website can be found at http://www.lowthercastle.org/.
